Abstract
► Extremely low-frequency magnetic fields (ELFMF) reduce cell viability. ► The drop in viability is concomitant with an increase of early apoptosis. ► Cell exposure to ELFMF stimulates microvesicle (MV) release. ► ELFMF causes poration of the plasma membrane and stimulates lysosomal exocytosis. ► ELFMF-induced poration increases intracellular calcium, stimulating MV release.
