► Ca2+ antagonists decrease anthocyanin and soluble sugar contents. ► Ca2+ antagonists strongly down-regulates the expression of SUC1 and PAP1. ► Ca2+ signals play a role in sugar uptake rather than in anthocyanin biosynthesis.
