► Ox-LDL promotes the release of IL-1β by activating the NLRP3 inflammasome. ► Ox-LDL participates in the priming of IL-1β secretion in macrophages. ► Activation of the NLRP3 inflammasome induced by ox-LDL is ROS dependent. ► Activation of NLRP3 inflammasome induced by ox-LDL is related to the cathepsin B.
