Abstract
⺠Glucolipotoxicity is an important factor in beta cell dysfunction. ⺠High glucose and palmitate induces SMILE expression in INS-1 cells. ⺠Overexpression of SMILE decreases insulin gene expression and insulin secretion. ⺠Beta cell dysfunction induced by high glucose and palmitate is mediated by SMILE.
