Abstract
⺠Full-length bCNG channels do not rescue bacteria from osmotic downshock. ⺠Removal of the binding domain restores limited mechanosensation to bCNG channels. ⺠C-terminal rearrangement in the MscS superfamily can drive channel gating. ⺠MscS sequence conservation defines superfamily members, but not mechanosensation.
