Abstract
⺠We cloned the ptr5+ gene involved in nuclear mRNA export in fission yeast. ⺠The ptr5+ gene was found to encode nucleoporin 85 (Nup85). ⺠Seh1p and Mlo3p are multi-copy suppressors for the ptr5 mutation. ⺠Ptr5p/Nup85p functions in nuclear mRNA export through the mRNA export factor Rae1p. ⺠Ptr5p/Nup85p interacts genetically with pre-mRNA splicing factors.
