Abstract
► Exposure to ambient particles increased the oxidative metabolism in mice lung. ► Increased O2 consumption precedes increased NO production in this model. ► It was accompanied by an increased NADPH oxidase activity and mitochondrial O2 uptake. ► Phospholipid oxidation precedes oxidative damage to proteins in this model. ► O2- production and mitochondrial O2 uptake positively correlates to oxidative damage.
