Abstract
► A novel carboxyl-terminally truncated scorpion alpha-toxin (MeuNaTxα(NT)-1) was chemically synthesized. ► MeuNaTxα(NT)-1 has unique structure different from other scorpion alpha-toxins. ► The truncated peptide acts as a blocker of sodium channels rather than a gating modulator. ► This work provides a clue for evolution-guided design of channel blockers for therapeutic aims.
