Abstract
⺠A novel carboxyl-terminally truncated scorpion alpha-toxin (MeuNaTxα(NT)-1) was chemically synthesized. ⺠MeuNaTxα(NT)-1 has unique structure different from other scorpion alpha-toxins. ⺠The truncated peptide acts as a blocker of sodium channels rather than a gating modulator. ⺠This work provides a clue for evolution-guided design of channel blockers for therapeutic aims.
