Abstract
► Saturated FFA (palmitate) induces inflammation and apoptosis of renal tubular cells. ► Palmitate is incorporated into DAG, which activates PKCθ in renal tubular cells. ► Unsaturated FFAs, oleate and EPA, inhibit palmitate-induced renal tubular damages. ► Unsaturated FFAs convert DAG to TG, which inhibits palmitate-induced PKCθ activity. ►Dgat2 is required for oleate- and EPA-mediated renoprotection against lipotoxicity.
