Abstract
⺠This article reviews the dual functions of the skeletal muscle L-type Ca2 + channel. ⺠CaV1.1 is the voltage sensor for excitation-contraction coupling in skeletal muscle. ⺠CaV1.1 also conducts L-type Ca2 + current. ⺠Mutations in CaV1.1 have been linked to episodic muscle disorders. ⺠A CaV1.1 variant is involved in development and contributes to myotonic dystrophy 1.
