Abstract
⺠Mutant ALDH1 barely supports the growth of triple ALDH deleted yeast on ethanol. ⺠NAD dependent mitochondrial ALDH2 replaces cytoplasmic NADP dependent ALDH1 in yeast. ⺠ALDH1 with mitochondrial leader attached is unable to be imported into mitochondria. ⺠Localization or coenzyme specificity of ALDH is not essential for aerobic growth of yeast on ethanol.
