► Glycated collagen was studied by direct, rapid, and label-free biophotonic methods. ► FT-IR and Raman provide complementary molecular information on glycation effects. ► The level of glycation can be evaluated in a semi-quantitative manner. ► Spectroscopic markers of glycation correlate with AGEs-fluorescence quantification.
