Abstract
⺠TMR-TAT mediated PCI is a promising delivery method but it is accompanied by cell death. ⺠TMR-TAT co-localizes with calcium containing endocytic vesicles in cells. ⺠Endosomal escape of TMR-TAT with light increases cytosolic calcium concentration. ⺠Calcium flux into the cytosol is followed by import of calcium into mitochondria. ⺠Release of calcium from endocytic vesicles is a causative factor of the cell death.
