Role of protein kinase C in phospholemman mediated regulation of α2β1 isozyme of Na+/K+-ATPase in caveolae of pulmonary artery smooth muscle cells

► Phospholemman is present in the caveolae of pulmonary artery smooth muscle cells. ► PKC phosphorylates phospholemman only when coupled with α2 isoform of Na+ pump. ► Upon phosphorylation by PKC phospholemman stimulates the ATPase activity. ► The increase in ATPase activity is due to increase in turnover number of the enzyme.
