Abstract
► Psychrophilic, ectothermic, homeothermic and thermophilic α-amylases were analyzed. ► The thermodynamic stability increases with the environmental/physiological temperature. ► Kinetics and activations parameters are adapted to the corresponding thermal regime. ► An evolutionary compromise between structural dynamics and activity is proposed.
