Abstract
⺠Mpl catalyses the addition of tripeptide l-Ala-γ-d-Glu-meso-diaminopimelate to UDP-MurNAc during peptidoglycan recycling. ⺠Ten tripeptides l-Ala-γ-d-Glu-Xaa were synthesised. ⺠Tripeptide with Xaa = ε-d-Lys is an excellent alternate substrate of Escherichia coli Mpl in vitro.
