Thrombolytic, anticoagulant and antiplatelet activities of codiase, a bi-functional fibrinolytic enzyme from Codium fragile

► First report on bi-functional fibrinolytic serine protease from green alga, Codium fragile. ► The enzyme was found to hydrolyze fibrin and fibrinogen effectively. ► In vitro and in vivo studies revealed that the enzyme was capable of reducing thrombosis in concentration-dependent manner. ► The enzyme exhibited anticoagulant and platelet disaggregation properties. ► It showed no toxicity both in vitro and in vivo.
