Abstract
⺠The quantitative biochemical properties of oleate hydratase were characterized first. ⺠The putative fatty acid hydratase was identified as an oleate hydratase. ⺠The enzyme exhibited activity only for cis-9- and cis-12-double bonds of fatty acids. ⺠Without FAD, all catalytic activity of the enzyme was abolished. ⺠G29, G31, and E56 were essential for FAD-binding.
