Abstract
⺠Binding of transferrin to the receptor induces generation of cell surface ceramide. ⺠Down regulation of acid sphingomyelinase disturbs transferrin uptake and recycling. ⺠Lack of ceramide facilitates translocation of transferrin receptor to rafts. ⺠Ceramide favors uptake of transferrin receptor by clathrin-depended pathway.
