Abstract
⺠We study the mechanisms that govern gap junction inhibition in astrocytes. ⺠Endothelin and sphingosine-1-phosphate trigger fast and drastic inhibition of gap junctions. ⺠Activation of G(i/o) is required for agonist-induced inhibition of gap junctions. ⺠Inhibition of gap junctions involves increase of molecular Cx43-ZO-1 interactions. ⺠Dephosphorylation of junctional Cx43 accompanies inhibition of gap junctions.
