Abstract
► DNA double strand breaks (DSBs) were specifically generated using micro-irradiation. ► RECQL5 depleted cells accumulate persistent DSBs following γ-irradiation. ► We provide insights into the recruitment and retention dynamics of RECQL5 at DSBs. ► Both the helicase and KIX domains of RECQL5 confer its recruitment and stable retention at DSBs. ► Human RecQ helicases have different inherent capacities to be retained at DSB sites.
