Abstract
⺠Protective action in endothelial cells (EC) of β-carotene is poorly understood. ⺠This study was to examine the HDL-like mechanisms of β-carotene in EC. ⺠β-carotene increased the expression of PONâ1, and reduced the expression of ICAM-1. ⺠β-carotene also induced p-AMPK, phospho-eNOS and PON-1 proteins. ⺠β-carotene may contribute to the maintenance of EC in a manner similar to HDL.
