Abstract
► The model aims at describing tumour growth in a dorsal skinfold chamber. ► The oxygen field cannot be described accurately without the submicrovascular network. ► Angiogenesis from the submicrovascular network does not accelerate tumour growth. ► The collapse of capillaries has to be integrated to reflect tumour hypoxia. ► The submicrovascular network is essential for modelling tumour growth.
