Abstract
► Flow separation can result in spatial variations of the arteriolar cell-free layer. ► The layer formation is attenuated in parent vessel close to the bifurcation. ► Large asymmetries of the layer form between opposite sides of downstream vessel. ► A thicker cell-free layer in parent vessel leads to more prominent downstream layer formation. ► Increased flow fraction into side branch decreases corresponding layer formation.
