Abstract
► Transmembrane proteins form insoluble aggregates with traditional expression systems. ► Baculovirus (BV) infection of Spodoptera cells (Sf9) causes release of microvesicles. ► BV containing CTNS or SLC17A5 sequences yield Sf9 vesicles containing cystinosin or sialin ► Such vesicles cause cystine or sialic acid depletion of cystinotic or ISSD fibroblasts. ► This method may permit production of other functional transmembrane proteins.
