Abstract
⺠Doxorubicin is a potent cancer chemotherapy drug, but also causes cardiotoxicity. ⺠Dietary nitrate limits cardiac dysfunction, cell death, and mitochondrial damage. ⺠Nitrate reduces oxidative stress and induces antioxidant enzyme - peroxiredoxin 5. ⺠Elevated levels of nitrate do not hamper anti-cancer efficacy of doxorubicin in vitro. ⺠Inorganic nitrate may be an affordable therapy for alleviating drug cardiotoxicity.
