► Food rich in omega-3 fatty acids (FA) have been replaced by omega-6 and trans FA. ► Polyunsaturated FAs regimes are important factors in the mood disorders. ► trans-FA increased the oxidative damages per se and caused hyperactivity. ► trans-FA exacerbated the neurotoxicity of the AMPH. ► The impact of trans-FA consumption on the development of BD need be monitored.
