Abstract
⺠Traditional bioengineering is limited by the lack of systematic methodology. ⺠Studies of synthetic gene expression have questioned beliefs about gene optimization. ⺠Current gene synthesis technologies enable a systematic approach to bioengineering. ⺠Experiments with synthetic genes are refining knowledge of host preferences. ⺠Rigorous engineering methods will accelerate the advancement of synthetic biology.
