► CeHsp70-1 was successfully expressed in large quantity in E. coli. ► CeHsp70-1 was purified to homogeneity. ► CeHsp70-1 has a catalytic constant similar to Hsc70 and BiP. ► In solution, CeHsp70-1 exists mainly in monomeric form at low concentrations.
