Abstract
►Serum salusin-α levels are increased in RA and BD, although they have increased carotid atherosclerosis. ►It seems that salusin-α does not directly affect the atherogenesis in RA and BD, in our study, whereas salusin-α has been reported to have anti-atherogenic effects in previous studies. ►Complexity of the pathogenesis of accelerated atherosclerosis remains to conceive, and further studies are needed to determinate the possible contribution of salusins to atherosclerosis in these inflammatory disorders. ►Increased levels of salusin-α, which may be expressed by inflammatory cells, may suggest its possible pathogenic roles in these inflammatory disorders.
