Abstract
Two types of medical devices are used for epilepsy surgery: vagus nerve stimulation (8900 â¬, covered apart the disease-related group rate) and the SEEG (covered by the disease-related group rate). The use of SEEG electrodes for epilepsy surgery began in 2004 in our establishment. The mean number of SEEG electrodes used per patient undergoing epilepsy surgery was 11 (range, 8 to 15) for a cost of 4284 â¬. This represented 58% of the disease-related group rate (7418 â¬). Finally, according to this study, the surgical therapy for pharmacoresistant epilepsy may present a significant clinical benefit. However, the cost-effectiveness of conventional epilepsy surgery using SEEG electrodes should be examined in the long term.
