Abstract
This article is a reflection of a presentation given in September 2009 in Bourges, France, for the 11th National Meeting of the French Society of Mediterranean Pharmacy. The article deals with the possible role that community pharmacists can have with regard to clients with psychiatric diseases. Relatively little is known in this field, and there are only few publications on the topic. The author concludes that different psychiatric diseases demand different forms of pharmaceutical care. However before the pharmacist can start, he needs to establish a broad cooperation with psychiatrists, general practitioners, psychiatric nurses and the family or other carers. Additionally the pharmacist needs more education about psychiatric diseases.
