Abstract
⺠Mutations in galE confer sensitivity to phage P1 in non-Typhimurium Salmonella. ⺠P1 can transfer large regions of DNA among serovars. ⺠Transduction is not hindered by coimmune prophages or endonucleases. ⺠Mutations in galE are easily repaired using a Îrfb donor strain. ⺠Phage P1 can be used for genetic manipulation of natural isolates of Salmonella.
