Abstract
This paper presents a novel calculation method to accurately determine the mesh stiffness of spur and helical gears. Firstly, based on the integral potential energy method, a comprehensive method is proposed to compute the mesh stiffness of the spur, obtaining more accurate results compared to previously used methods. Secondly, the proposed method for spur gears is then used to develop two models, single coupling and double coupling models, to calculate the mesh stiffness of helical gear pairs. The effects of coupling stiffness in both the single coupling and double coupling models are investigated. The main conclusion is drawn that the methods proposed in this paper can be used to accurately compute the meshing stiffness of spur and helical gears.
