Abstract
Recent years have seen the emerging of application of origami in many areas. The extended surface enabled by origami structures apparently has great potential to be employed as fin for heat dissipation where surface area is a major consideration. However, the application of origami in heat transfer and the influence of its geometrical parameters to heat dissipation enhancement have not yet been sufficiently appreciated. Here we propose a fin design of origami shape for free convection, forced convection and radiation heat dissipations. It is found that origami fin can effective increase heat dissipation for all heat transfer scenarios. Origami fin design strategy has also been discussed. This study will provide valuable rationales in harnessing fin of origami shape for heat dissipation.
