Abstract

The article deals with Belyi's attitude to Emil Medtner after their final break-up in 1915. Since emigration to Berlin Belyi not only wanted to finish the once interrupted debate and prove himself right but also to make amends with his friend and teacher. The second tendency – the desire to make amends – is analysed in the article. It can be seen in Vospominaniia o Bloke, in the memoirs Nachalo veka, in the poem ‘Starinnyi drug’. Proof can also be found in memoirs of Belyi's contemporaries (P. Zaitsev, E. Makaev, G. Kireevskaia).
