Abstract
The article uncovers the hitherto underestimated influence of Henri Bergsonʼs Philosophy of Life on Osip Mandelʼshtamʼs worldview and poetics, a connection that has already been pointed out by Viktor Zhirmunskii. In particular, the author explores in detail the presence of Bergson in Mandelʼshtamʼs ‘Grifelʼnaia oda’ (‘Slate Ode’), especially with respect to the theme of time, where the poet also engages with his predecessors Derzhavin and Lermontov.
