Abstract
This article examines the various aspects of the diary form in Zamiatin's We, with respect to the choice of this form, which entails an unreliable narrator, the (lack of) dating, the frequency of the entrances and the consequences for the characterization of the hero D-503. The diary lays bare the lack of understanding of the hero, his inner conflict, which is also reflected in its language. This corresponds with the (intentional) indefiniteness, even non-existence of cyclical and historical time in the Single State, where the only concrete unit of time becomes the minute.
