•Predictive functional control (PFC) based on Auto Regressive Moving Average (ARMA) representation is developed.•PFC approach is applied both on a liquid vessel and a heater exchange systems compared to conventional ones.•Improvement of their performances in case of constraints and disturbance rejection for SISO systems has been considered.
In this paper, an advanced control strategy has been validated on a liquid vessel and a heat exchanger applications. The principal characteristics of this strategy, which is the Predictive Functional Control, are presented. Due to its simplicity in implementation and tuning, this algorithm is adopted for large wide systems. Compared with PID controller, the performances of this approach are improved by simulation results even with perturbations and under constraints in addition to the qualitative results.
