Abstract

•Operation of an Electric Vehicle in the presence of fault.•A new technique strategy for double star induction motor used under fault condition in vehicle electric.•An experimental prototype to evaluate the performances of the control strategy is studied.

An electric vehicle is a vehicle powered by an electric motor. In most cases induction motors are applied. But clearly with the increasing complexity of electrical/electronic architectures used in electric vehicles, it is possible to generate fault conditions, such as open circuits which provide graceful degradation of the system performance because the three phase induction motor can't operate even with one less phase. To avoid hard, fail-stop behaviors and ensure the continuity of operation even with the presence of a fault conditions, this article proposes the introduction of a multiphase voltage source inverter, multiphase induction motor, the double star induction machine in electric drain train that is controlled by direct torque control under open circuits. In fact, by using this strategy of control it allows the elimination of the torque ripples and continuity of service. Experimental results illustrate the effectiveness of the proposed control scheme.
