Abstract

•We stabilized N → Cd coordinated organocadmium iodides.•The structures of both cadmium iodides are different.•The influence of the steric hindrance of both chelating ligands is discussed.

The synthesis of the compounds [L1Cd(μ-I)]2 (1), L2Cd(μ-I)2·Li(THF)2 (2), and [L3·CdI2] (3) with L1 = {2,6-(Me2NCH2)2C6H3)−}, L2 = {2,6-[(CH3)CN(C6H3-2′,6′-iPr2)]2C6H3}− and L3 = {2-[(CH3)CN(C6H3-2,6-iPr2)]-6-(CH3O)}C5H3N) is reported. The compounds were characterized by elemental analyses, 1H and 13C NMR spectroscopy, and single crystal X-ray diffractions analyses

Graphical abstractThe synthesis of the compounds [L1Cd(μ-I)]2 (1), L2Cd(μ-I)2·Li(THF)2 (2), and [L3·CdI2] (3) with L1 = {2,6-(Me2NCH2)2C6H3)−}, L2 = {2,6-[(CH3)CN(C6H3-2′,6′-iPr2)]2C6H3}− and L3 = {2-[(CH3)CN(C6H3-2,6-iPr2)]-6-(CH3O)}C5H3N) is reported. Both N,C,N-chelating ligands L1,2 are able to stabilize N → Cd coordinated organocadmium iodides 1 and 2. The structure of complex 1 revealed dimeric nature, while the monomeric L2CdI has been stabilized by ligand L2. The L2CdI, however, co-crystalizes with LiI. The N,N-chelating ligand L3 has been successfully applied for the preparation of N → Cd coordinated CdI2.Figure optionsDownload full-size imageDownload as PowerPoint slide
