Two new multidentate ligands 2,6-dimethyl-3,5-dicyano-4-(3-quinolinyl)-1,4-dihydropyridine, L1, and 2,6-diamino-3,5-dicyano-4-(3-quinolinyl)-2,5-heptadiene, L2, incorporating multii-functional groups have been synthesized and reacted with silver(I) salts to give complexes of the types [Ag(L1)(CF3SO3)]n, 1, {[Ag(L1)2](ClO4)}n, 2, and {[Ag2(L2)2](ClO4)2·2CH3CN·H2O}n, 3. All compounds have been characterized by spectroscopic methods and their structures determined by X-ray crystallography.Ligand L1 forms 2-D layer structures in the solid state, while those complexes 1–3 show 0-D molecular complex, 1-D ladder-like chain and 2-D polymeric net forming 3-D supramolecular structures by series N–H⋯O and C-H---X (X = O or F) hydrogen bonds and/or C–H⋯π and π–π interactions. All complexes exhibit emissions which may be tentatively assigned as intra-ligand (IL) π → π∗ transition.
Graphical abstractThe syntheses and crystal structures of three new coordination polymers containing 2,6-dimethyl-3,5-dicyano-4-(3-quinolinyl)-1,4-dihydropyridine, and 2,6-diamino-3,5-dicyano-4-(3-quinolinyl)-2,5-heptadiene, are reported. Complexes 1–3 show 0-D molecular complex, 1-D ladder-like chain and 2-D polymeric net.Figure optionsDownload full-size imageDownload as PowerPoint slide
