Abstract

Two novel heterometallic organic–inorganic hybrids, [Co(terpy)2]4[Pb8Br24·2(DMF)]·8(DMF) (1) and {[Co(terpy)2]4[Pb16Br40]·H2O}n (2), with unprecedented structures have been prepared from the reactions of cobalt(II) salts with 2,2′:6′,2′′-terpyridine (terpy), PbBr2 and KBr. Compound 1 contains a novel octanuclear Pb–Br anion formed from six coordinate Pb–Br units, representing the highest nuclearity for Pb–Br cluster anions. Compound 2 exhibits 1-D infinite chains consisting of five-, six and seven-coordinate Pb units.

Compound 1 contains the highest nuclearity for Pb–Br anion clusters to date, while compound 2 is the first example incorporating a PbBr7 unit in bromoplumbate complexes.Figure optionsDownload full-size imageDownload as PowerPoint slide
