Cationic arene ruthenium metalla-assemblies of the general formula [Ru4(p-cymene)4(N, N′-L)2(ox)2][CF3SO3]4 (1–4) and [Ru6(p-cymene)6(N, N′, N″-L)2(ox)3][CF3SO3]6 (5) were prepared by the reaction of the dinuclear ruthenium complex, [(p-cymene)2Ru2Cl2(ox)2] (6) with a range of linear, bent bis-pyridine and trigonal tris-pyridine amide donor ligands (7–11) in methanol in the presence of AgO3SCF3. These new metalla-assemblies (1–5) were fully characterized by analytical techniques including elemental analysis, IR spectroscopy, 1H, 13C NMR spectroscopy, and HR-ESI-MS spectrometry. A UV–Vis study was also carried out for the entire range of metalla-assemblies.
