Abstract

The reactions of Zn(O2CCH3)2 · 6H2O, ZnSiF6 · 6H2O and ZnSO4 · 6H2O with bpp (bpp = 1,3-bis(4-pyridyl)propane) in CH3OH afforded the complexes [Zn7(O2CCH3)10(μ4-O)2(bpp) · 4H2O]n (1), [Zn(SiF6)(bpp)2 · 4H2O · 2CH3OH]n (2), and [Zn(bpp)(SO4) · CH3OH]n (3), respectively, which were characterized by infrared spectroscopy, elemental analysis, thermogravimetric analysis and single-crystal X-ray diffraction. In complex 1, the CH3COO− anions coordinate to the Zn(II) metal centers to form heptanuclear clusters which are bridged by the bpp ligands to form 1-D zig-zag chains. In complex 2, the double-strained chains of octahedral Zn(II) cations containing bpp ligands are bridged by the octahedral SiF62- anions through two trans F atoms to form 2-D grids, while in complex 3, the single-strained helical chain of the tetrahedral Zn(II) cations containing bpp ligands are bridged by the tetrahedral μ2-SO42- anion to form a 3-D porous structure. The anions show significant influence on the polymeric structures of Zn(II) complexes containing bpp ligands.

Graphical abstractThe synthesis and structures of three new coordination polymers, [Zn7(O2CCH3)10(μ4-O2)(bpp) · 4H2O]n (bpp = 1,3-bis(4-pyridyl)propane) (1), [Zn(SiF6)(bpp)2 · 4H2O · 2CH3OH]n (2), and [Zn(bpp)(SO4) · CH3OH]n (3), are reported.Complex 1 exhibits heptanuclear clusters which are bridged by the bpp ligands to form 1-D zig−zag chains, while complexes 2 and 3 show 2-D grid and 3-D porous structures.Figure optionsDownload full-size imageDownload as PowerPoint slide
