Complexation of 6,6″-dimethyl-2,2′:6′,2″-terpyridine ligand (L) with Ni(II) as metal centre resulted in formation of new coordination compounds of the following molecular formula: [NiLCl2] (1), [NiL(NO3)2] (2) and [NiL(H2O)3](ClO4)2·2H2O (3). X-ray crystallographic analysis revealed that synthesized complexes are monomeric, with coordination number and geometry varying in dependence to the applied counterion. Metallo-molecular systems were characterized by elementary analysis, spectral techniques (FT-IR, ESI-MS) and evaluated in terms of their magnetic properties.
Graphical abstractManuscript presents synthesis and magnetostructural characterization of a series of nickel complexes with terpyridine ligand in accordance to applied counterion. Effect of the latter ones (chloride, nitrate and perchlorate) on structure and single ion anisotropic values is shown and compared with mononuclear divalent coordination architectures previously obtained by us.Figure optionsDownload full-size imageDownload as PowerPoint slide
