Abstract

Two nickel(II) complexes, [Ni(deen)(N3)2]n (1) and [Ni(L)N3] (2), where deen = N,N-diethylethylenediamine, HL = 2-(1-(2-(diethylamino)ethylimino)ethyl)phenol, have been prepared and characterized by elemental analysis, IR and UV–Vis spectroscopy and single crystal X-ray diffraction studies. Complex 1 is polynuclear with alternating double end-on and end-to-end azide bridges, which creates 2D layer with 63-hcb topology. Complex 2 is mononuclear and contains square planar nickel(II). Complex 2 shows significant C–H⋯π interactions and forms a 1D array along with a dimeric unit in the crystal packing.

Graphical abstractTwo nickel(II) complexes have been prepared using azide and two different ligands. The structures and geometries of the two complexes are drastically different. Complex 1 is polynuclear having alternating double end-on and end-to-end azide bridges which creates 2D layer with 63-hcb topology whereas, complex 2 is mononuclear and contains square planar nickel(II).Figure optionsDownload full-size imageDownload as PowerPoint slide
