Abstract

Eight group 12 metal complexes of PTA derivatives, [ZnCl2(OPTA)(H2O)] (1), [ZnCl2(μ-OPTA)]n (2), [CdCl2(OPTA)(H2O)] (3), [Cd(OPTA)(H2O)Br2] (4), [CdI2(κ1-OPTA)(μ-OPTA)] (5), [HgCl2(μ-OPTA)]n (6), [ZnCl2(SPTAH)(SPTAZnCl3)] (7), and [CdCl2(SPTA)(CH3OH)]n (8), have been synthesized, and characterized by IR, elemental analysis, ESI-MS, 1H and 31P{1H} NMR, and single-crystal X-ray analysis. Their structures and coordination modes are investigated both in the solid state and in aqueous solution. Their solid-state structures, found to be either dinuclear or polymeric, were elucidated by single-crystal X-ray diffraction. All the metal complexes, however, do not remain intact in aqueous solution as revealed by their 1H and 31P{1H} NMR spectroscopic data, and electrospray ionization mass spectrometry.

Graphical abstractBoth N-bound and N,O/S bridging coordination modes were observed for group 12 metal complexes of OPTA and SPTA. The bridging coordination mode results in one-dimensional coordination polymers or binuclear complexes of group 12 metals.Figure optionsDownload full-size imageDownload as PowerPoint slide
