Abstract

A single thiocyanato bridged 1D polymeric zinc complex with dinuclear asymmetric unit [Zn2L1(μ1,3-SCN)(SCN)]n (1) and a dimeric zinc complex [Zn2L2(NCS)(OOCCH3)(CH3OH)2] (2) have been synthesized using two different Schiff bases N,N/-bis(3-methoxysalicylidenimino)-1,3-diaminopropane (L1H2) and N,N/-bis(3-ethoxysalicylidenimino)-1,3-diaminopropane (L2H2), respectively. All the ligands and the complexes have been characterized by microanalytical and spectroscopic techniques. The structures of the complexes have been conclusively determined by single crystal X-ray diffraction studies. Thermo-gravimetric analysis has been performed to investigate their thermal stability. Finally, the photoluminescence properties of the complexes as well as their respective ligands have been investigated with a comparative approach.

Graphical abstractTwo new ZnII complexes chelated by potentially hexadentate N2O4 donor Schiff bases and thiocyanato ligands have been synthesized and characterized by spectroscopic techniques as well as single crystal X-ray diffraction analysis. In one complex (1) the dinuclear cores are interconnected by SCN− ligands to form 1D polymer but in another (2) SCN− behaves only as terminal ligand. The complexes are thermally stable enough to be used as a luminescent probe.Figure optionsDownload full-size imageDownload as PowerPoint slide
