Abstract

A new dimanganese Keggin-type polyoxotungstate K6[Mn2SiW10O37(OH)(H2O)]·11H2O (1) with 1D chains was obtained from a one-pot solution approach. The title compound was characterized with a wide range of analytical techniques including single crystal X-ray diffraction as well as various spectroscopic techniques, and its magnetic behavior was investigated. The novel dimanganese-substituted Keggin ion of (1) is constructed from a divacant {SiW10O37} subunit incorporating MnII and MnIII ions. The emerging building blocks self-organize into new 1D chain-like POM architectures via Mn–O–W bridges that are rarely observed among this compound class. Water oxidation performance and long-term structural stability of (1) were investigated.

Self-organization of the divacant {SiW10O36} building block afforded a new all-inorganic 1D POM architecture containing mixed valent MnII/MnIII and rarely observed Mn–O–W bridges.Figure optionsDownload full-size imageDownload as PowerPoint slideHighlights► One-step approach to the new dimanganese Keggin cluster [α-Mn2SiW10O38]7−. ► Self-organization of [α-Mn2SiW10O38]7− into all-inorganic 1D chain architectures. ► Investigation of magnetic and catalytic properties as well as long-term stability.
